It should be pretty obvious, I hope, that for a page to get ranked, Google first has to know about it! It’s not like someone sends them a memo. 🙂 Discovering pages and pre-processing them prior to the actual ranking process is part of what is called spidering or crawling. These will be described in detail over the next two chapters. Here, I’m providing a very rough guide so you know how do use the detail to follow.
