Not so visible from the outside, but it’s been a super-busy couple weeks where I live so I’m behind on updates.
- Thanks to “BigAl” for pointing out a problem with our generation of sitemap files. The API we use – way faster than the silly way WP plugins do it – had the unwanted effect of including drafts! Oops. That’s fixed. We auto-magically generate the sitemap.xml file for all plugs every day. Please don’t try to do it with a plugin. It’s not harmful, but it also does not work and would be stupid slow if it did.
- Related to sitemaps, WP plugins for robots.txt work in the same brain-dead way. We have not yet created a smart way. I think it is not very important, but do let me know if I missed something important there.
- I changed the COD factory to use GPT4o. Yes, that took a while. In some prior “upgrades” the better brain also included way more censorship and new variations of garbage output to filter. I might jinx it by saying this but… so far, this was the best/cleanest update ever.
- A few days ago we did plugin updates across all Instablogs. In general, you should feel free to just wait for us to do that. We are never the first nor last to update. We want to see a new version “cure” for a bit. Except in really weird cases, if we have not done a plugin update, you should not.
- For example: the tagDiv composer, suddenly and without warning, requires PHP8! Really? Thanks guys. That’s a HUGE change that is almost certain to break sh*t. << that's the technical term for WordPress 'round here
- If you ever find yourself wondering what “Managed WordPress Hosting” actually means, not updating is a big part.
More soon!
